All the wonders of the Tsar's Capitals

  • Take the time to discover Russian history and culture in depth through a tour to the two capitals of Russia. First of all, Moscow, the political and economic capital, the largest in Europe. Then St. Petersburg, famous for its canals and its numerous and sumptuous palaces.

Meeting with your guide for a tour of the city by transport: discovery of the Red Square, the St-Basil Cathedral, the Gum, the Kremlin, the Bolshoi Theatre, The Manezhnaya, Tverskaya street, and the mount Vorobievy with its superb panorama and finally the view of the Novodevichiy monastery. Then, visit the St-Basil cathedral near the Red Square.

Guided visit to the Kremlin and its cathedrals (by foot with your guide): Former residence of the czars, the country's largest and most famous fortress, the Kremlin is a collection of palaces and cathedrals, some of which date back to the 15th century. Its walls are also home to as many as 54 burials of former czars and many other curiosities (In option: Visit the Kremlin Armoury).  Not far away from it is the impressive Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, destroyed by Stalin, rebuilt as a pool in front of the cathedral’s entrance, then identically reconstructed in the 2000’s to the original edifice, and opened for worship upon completion.

In the morning, guided tour of your choice : 

Choice 1 - guided tour of the Kolomenskoye estate. From the 14th century, the Kolomenskoye estate was one of the places of residence of the Great Princes and later of the Tsars. 

Choice 2 - Guided Tour of the Pushkin Museum. The Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts is considered one of the most important museums in Russia and certainly represents one of the pillars of the world of European and World arts. 

Free time for lunch and free afternoon.

Departure for Sergeyev Possad with your driver (without guide). Visit of the Monastery of the Trinity-Saint-Serge with a local French-speaking guide : listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Sergeyev Possad is today the seat of the Russian Patriarchate and takes a high place of pilgrimage for the faithful who come to visit the sarcophagus of the saint. It was in this monastery, founded in 1340 by Serge de Radonege, Saint Patron of Russia, that Boris Godunov was buried and that Peter The Great took refuge during the Streltsy revolt.

Free time for lunch on site. Back to Moscow, and  free late afternoon.

In the evening, transfer to the train station to catch your train to St. Petersburg (optional: take the fast train (4h) in the afternoon, and spend an extra night in St. Petersburg).

Early welcome by your guide at the train station (breakfast on the train). 

Departure with your guide for a city tour of St. Petersburg by transport then visit the Peter and Paul Fortress: discovery of the sumptuous capital dreamed by Peter the great at the mouth of the Neva. The Decembrist square, the Admiralty and the Cathedral of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, the Nevsky Prospect, the canals, Savior on the Spilled Blood ... the city tour is the ideal excursion to understand the geography of this great city.

Meet with your guide and depart for the guided tour of the Hermitage Museum: A shining jewel of Russian Baroque art, the Hermitage Museum is one of the most important museums in the world. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it houses treasures from antiquity and the works of the great masters of the Dutch, Italian, Flemish, and Spanish schools. This is a visit appreciated for both the richness of the collections and the magnificence of the buildings.

Depart with your guide to visit St-Isaac's Cathedral (with a climb to the dome), and to the Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood: The Orthodox Cathedral of St. Isaac, built in the nineteenth century under the reigns of Alexander I, Nicholas I, and Alexander II, was the center of religious life in St-Petersburg until the Revolution. The third largest cathedral in Europe, it offers a magnificent view of the city and the Neva from its main dome at 102 m high. Built by Alexander III on the site where his father, Alexander II, was murdered in 1881, the Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood was constructed in the neo-Russian style. Greatly inspired by St-Basil's Cathedral of Moscow, the cathedral is one of the most picturesque and most visited buildings of St-Petersburg today.

Departure by public transport/by foot with your guide to then take the hydrofoil (from May to September, if the weather allows) for the visit of Petrodvorets: The palace of Peterhof was the Russian Versailles installed to mark Peter the Great's victory over the Swedes. The long canal linking it to the Gulf of Finland allowed guests to reach the palace by boat. Admire the Great Waterfall and all of the wonderful fountains, waterfalls, and sculptures that run from mid-May to September.

Lunch on site, back to town, free end of afternoon.

Departure by transport for a guided tour of Pushkin (Tsarskoye Selo) by car: the village of Tsarskoye Selo also called the “Imperial Village” was found in the 18th century to house the summer residence of the Tsars. Renamed "Pushkin" after the Revolution, it houses the splendid Catherine Palace. (In option: visit of the Pavlosk Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Pavlovsk is renowned for the splendor of its interiors housing many 18th century pieces of furniture, sculptures, and paintings, but also for the beauty of its English-style park).

CANCELLATION POLICY

. If the cancellation is made more than 30 days before departure, the fee is 100€ 

. Between 30 and 20 days before departure, cancellation fee equals 25 % of the total amount of the trip price

. Between 19 and 13 days, the fee equals 35 %

. Between 12 and 9 days, the fee equals 60 %

. If the cancellation is made less than 9 days before departure, the cancellation fee is 100% of the total amount

Ticketing service: except if specified otherwise, flight and train tickets are non-changeable and non-refundable

Other services: insurance and administrative fees are non-refundable
